Language is a tool of communication between one human being with another. The Indonesian state, which consists of various regions and ethnic groups, possesses a variety of regional languages. Nevertheless, the unifying language or the national language in use is the Indonesian language (bahasa Indonesia).
Article 36 of the 1945 Constitution clearly stipulates that the State language is the Indonesian language.
