PALANGKARAYA AND CENTRAL KALIMANTAN
Central Kalimantan is the biggest province on Borneo island, about 253 800 km² width and its territory is mostly forest. The northern part is mountainous which are difficult to reach, the center is dense tropical forest, while the southern region is swamp with many rivers. The climate is hot and humid in Borneo. Central Kalimantan has a strategic geographical position, dealing directly with Java Sea and bordered with West Kalimantan and East Kalimantan provinces.

Orangutans are still endemic animals in Central Kalimantan, especially in Tanjung Puting National Park area which has 300,000 ha area in Kotawaringin Barat and Seruyan. There are bears, porcupines, gibbons-gibbons, macaques, macaques, proboscis monkeys, anteaters, crocodiles, lemurs, freshwater whales (tampahas), arowana, manjuhan, marine life, turtles, fleeced, hornbills, parrots and other variety animals.
The native people of Central Kalimantan is Dayak tribe. The common Dayak tribe in Central Kalimantan is Dayak Ngaju because this kind of tribe is the most dominant. Other tribes who live on the coast is Banjar Malay Beach which is fill 24.20% of population. Central Kalimantan consists of dozens, even hundreds of Dayak languages. However, in daily life, language that is often used is Dayak Ngaju, Dayak Maayan, Dayak Kapuas, Javanese and Banjar language.
Dayak tribe known as "Rumah Betang" a large mansion which occupied by several families for generations. That's why they are very close and became the dominant element of the sustainability of this unique culture.

Tourism Objects of Central Kalimantan Province
Palangkaraya
Palangkaraya is the capital of the Indonesian province Central Kalimantan, also famously known as Central Borneo situated between the Kahayan and the Sabangau rivers. The closest airport serving the city is Tjilik Riwut. Palangkaraya is the largest city by land area in Indonesia. Most of the area is still forested, including protected forests, nature conservation areas, and Tangkiling Forest.
The town that has split by Kahajan river is not be a major of tourist destination town yet. It's prestige has not as tight as others tourism destination cities in Indonesia. But who would have thought, this capital of Central Kalimantan, collected quite a lot of interesting objects which unfortunately to passed away. Not only offers inland river edge tour, as the capital of the province, Palangkaraya also has a series of nature objects, culture, history, souvenirs shop to unique culinary special Dayak.
From Banjarmasin towards Palangkaraya takes about 4 hours, by split one of Trans Kalimantan lane. The grand of Barito Bridge will found about 30 minutes away. This bridge is the pride bridge of South Kalimantan. Barito River runs beneath stout as far as 900 miles and culminate in Muller Mountains. KAPUAS
Kualakapuas is the capital of the Kapuas regency, south of Palangkaraya, on the Kapuas River 40 kilometers from Banjarmasin. A well-known tourism attraction is ‘Telo’ Island, a fishing village and port. It is a pleasant location for recreation. For the adventurer, white water rafters and nature lovers, there is Gohong Rawai, which known for its beautiful and challenging rapids. The gold mines of Teweh and Batu Api, Rungan district, are also interesting places to be visited. In this region, gold mining is a major source of livelihood for the people, who pan for the valuable metal using the old traditional method. Gold mines are found in many places in Central Kalimantan.
TOURISM OBJECTS BATU SULI AND BATU TINGKES
Batu Suli is a steep hill in Khayan riverbank with natural scenery, which is originally and fascinates trees ruthless. In Batu Suli culminate; there is a boosting big stone upward with incline position called Batu Antang or Batu Tingkes. This tourism object is located in Upun Batu Teweh district.
HAMPUTUNG RIVER
This tourism object located in North Kahayan Hulu region which is a river line that covered with trees with its ruthless in left and right side of the river, the clear water hardly suited for tourism adventure.
KAPUAS
KAPUAS HULU RIVER
This Kapuas Hulu river path is very compatible for tourism adventure by using rubber boat or other boat types. It is along the length of this river there are some Riam fruits with extent of its river stone in so many its forms. In left and right of the river there is the trees, which inhabited various fauna types.
CEMARA LABAT BEACH
This beach unfolds in Java Sea coastal area with approximately length 5 km that being under the aegis of coconut trees and mangrove tree, so it has beautiful scenery and interesting. The condition of the beach is gradient and waved. This beach is located in south side of Kuala Kapuas in Cemara Labat village, Kapuas Kuala district.
UP THE RIVER OF KAHAYAN
There are many long houses which are found at the Kahayan river mouth become an interesting scenery. The long wooden boats become the backbone of the inter-village transportation. The upstream journey by Klotok boat (long boat) along the Kahayan River has its own challenge. This river is indeed not so widely known, if compared with Kapuas River (600 kilometers) and Barito River (500 kilometers). Like the big rivers in Kalimantan, this river has been the source of subsistence of the population for thousands years, from which they would hunt, fish and collect foods and other forest products (such as bee wax, hornbills ivory, rattan cane, resin and camphor).
EAST KOTAWARINGIN
UJUNG PANDARAN
It is located Ujung Pandaran area seashore about 80 km south side Sampit. This beach has beautiful view and draw. Besides for recreation, this tourism object also applicable as sport arena such as; Volley, and athletic beach. Besides that, it also available with a traditional boat, which readily utilized along the beach as great as enjoying the scenery of the Java seashore.
NATURE GARDEN TOURISM / NATIONAL TANJUNG PUTTING

SAMPIT
Sampit town, on the Sampit River and the capital of Sampit regency, is known as the biggest timber port in Kalimantan as well as in Indonesia. Pandaran Beach is park on the seaside at the mouth of the Sampit River. It is quite unique. One sees to one's north the Orchid Park of “Pembuangan hulu” is a natural forest in which a number of rare and beautiful orchid varieties grow. Hunters can engage in their favorite pastime at the Serayan River, which borders on the hunting park of Kotawaringin Barat.
WEST KOTAWARINGIN
Pangkalanbun
Pangkalanbun is the capital of the Kotawaringin Barat regency, in the western part of Central Kalimantan. It is busy little town. In this town, the old Palace of Pangkalanbun, now 200 years old can still be seen. Made of Ulin (ironwood), it is the only Banjar royal legacy found in Central Kalimantan.
The Mosque of Kyai Gede is the oldest mosque, being more than 300 years old, found in Kotawaringin district. The Tanjung Puting National Park is a very wellknown nature and wildlife reserve for lowland and swamp forest, inhabited by orang utans, owa-owa, bekatan and other primates. One can visit the Orang Utan Rehabilitation Center, which is supported by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
NATURE GARDEN TOURISM / NATIONAL TANJUNG PUTTING

SULTAN KOTA WARINGIN GRAVE
It is the fossil of Kotawaringin Empire. Actually, this Sultan Palace has been combustible, but now has been restored to preserve the highness omission of empire in the past. This grave located in Pangkalan Bun downtown, hilly area, Kotawaringin Barat regency.
MOSQUE KYAI GEDE

NATAI LENGKUAS

BARITO UTARA
Barito Utara regency is one of regencies in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia. The capital of the district is located in Muara Teweh. North Barito can be said as a fertile area with outstanding nature contents. This area can be developed as a potential tourist destination. It is reasonable however if development policies in tourism aspect is focused on developing potential tourist attraction, whether natural tourism, culture, and history.
The potential tourist destinations to be developed are Jantur Doyan waterfall area, which is currently widely used as recreation area of Muara Teweh town residents and its surroundings. Besides, the tourists can also enjoy others natural beauty objects in Barito Utara, such as Nature Reserves or Pararawen Protected Forest, Butong Lake, Inih waterfall and lake, and Trinsing irrigation Dam.
Otherwise, because this region is known for having a lot of plateaus with mountainous rock formations, so in some places scattered natural caves which are very challenging for the adventurous traveler. You will meet Siapa Cave, Lambung Cave, Liang Pandan Cave, Liang Idai Cave, and others. While the beautiful mountains can seen in the area of Mount Lumut and Angah (Sentuyun Waterfall Benangin).
However, the peak of the real wonders of the natural scenery can be found in the nature reserve area or Forest Preserve Pararawen II. There are interesting attractions here, including various species of flora and fauna, typical of tropical forests of Borneo, and unspoiled plasma nuftah richness.
While tourism culture that spread across Barito Utara regency has artistic worth with a very high taste. Valuable cultural heritage of this region gives the typical personification diversity and high creative ability, feeling and intention of the past ancestors. Tahai Lake
Tahai Lake is a small lake located in Tahai village, Tumbang Tahai Village, Bukit Batu district, located about 29 Km from Palangkaraya town. It is very easy to reach this lake, takes only 30 minutes either by using two-wheel vehicles either four-wheel vehicles.
Tahai comes from Dayak language, means lake. Based on the community mythology, Tahai lake formed from sand excavation that turn to water logging, so it does not flow to the next river. There are many Tahai in Central Kalimantan, but Tahai Lake is the most popular lake. This lake, with dense forest feel, bridge over the lake, the water wagon, some huts to remove your fatigue and facilitated with several lodges.
Another special thing of Tahai Lake is the wooden bridge that surrounded this forest area, so that the visitors do not have to worry about waterlogged peat. In the forest, visitors can enjoy the cool and fresh air while listening to the jungle birds chirp sweetly. If you're lucky, visitors can also meet with uwak-uwak, one of rare species of monkeys which are protected by the government and exist only in this region.
Tahai lake has special unique thing that cannot found in others lakes (especially outside of Kalimantan island), the red water caused by tree roots in peat. Around the lake, visitors can also see a unique sight, ie there are many floating houses that the locals referred to as Lanting home.
Betang Traditional House
This Betang House is the creation of Dayaknese Tribe that lived in Kalimantan inland with group concept of life. At that time, Dayak tribes stay inland of Kalimantan and pass their live in group, together in a house called 'Rumah Betang' (Betang traditional house).
Betang has its unique points that can see from the elongated shape and there are only a staircase and entrance into the Longhouse. The stair which is used for enter to the Longhouse called 'hejot'. Betang has built in high position from the ground in order to avoid the trouble things for residents of the Longhouse, include avoiding enemies that can come suddenly, wild animals, or floods that sometimes hit the Longhouse. Almost all betang can be found on the outskirts of major rivers in Kalimantan.
Usually, Betang built in rather big size with about 30-150 meter length, 10-30 meter width and the mast about 3-5 meter height. Betang built using high quality wood, the ironwood (Eusideroxylon zwageri T et B). This wood can stand over hundreds of years and anti termite. This is the real best wood.
Betang House common inhabited by 100-150 people and you may imagine how crowded inside. Betang can said as tribe house because it led by a Pambakas Lewu (the tribe leader). Inside, you will meet several rooms that inhabited by each families.
On the front of the house, there is a hall as a place to receive guests as well as the customary meeting place. Usually, here you will meet a sapundu. Sapundu is a statue or totem, which generally formed in human shaped. Sapundu functioned as a place to tie the animals to be sacrificed for the ceremonial procession. Sometimes there are also patahu in front yard of betang that use for worship house.
On the back of the Longhouse you will found a small hall called tukau used as a warehouse for storing agricultural equipment, such as lisung or halu. In betang, there is also a room used as weapon storage area, called bawong. On the front or back part of betang, there is also Sandung. Sandung is a storage place to save the bones of the family who had died and has gone through tiwah ceremony process.
History Site of Tajahan Tjilik Riwut
At the river cross of Kahajan and Rungan River, the ship turned around. Therein lies this historical site. Tajahan is a sacred location which highly purified by the Dayak tribe, especially they who belief Kaharingan. If you have a desire, the Dayak people usually put a yellow cloth and offerings in tajahan. Supposedly, this tajahan has frequented by national hero from Central Kalimantan named Tjilik Riwut. You will also found six mini home contents some eggs and bones for the offering around Tajahan.
From the top deck of the ship, you can more freely enjoy the scenery along the river that divides Palangkaraya. The ships crept back under Kahayan bridge. The next route is to enjoy a village over the river. The local people call it as Lanting home. Floating house only sustained a few logs. Not only as a residential, the residents also use it as their "yard" for their fishpond of freshwater fish or use it as kiosk with various types of merchandise.
Kaja Island
Kaja Island in Tangkiling district is about 40 minutes drive inland. Facilitated with Tangkiling dock at Rungan river side, with klotok enjoy Dayak Village along the river to Kaja island.
Although it is not as famous as Tanjung Puting National Park, the charm of the free-living orangutans on the island has tempting adventure. Moreover, it also accompanied by many foreign tourists from various countries.
Closer to the edge of lush trees in Kaja Island, you will greeted by an adult orangutan that hold her child. No matter the presence of visitors, a small family of this exotic animals was seen relaxing on a tree. Occasionally the baby clinging to its mother's body. This Indonesia animal pride is so impressed dashing at once adorable.
Muara Teweh
Muara Teweh town is the capital city of Barito Utara regency which mostly inhabited by Dayak Bakumpai tribe, Dayak sub-ethnis in Barito. Mostly, they are Moslem. This town surrounded by forest and elongated following the river flow. This town is the one crowd countryside in Barito river, which divide Kalimantan islnd from Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan to Murung Raya regency, Central Kalimantan.
As 'water' town, Muara Teweh presenting a unique view. In this small town, there are quite a lot of floating homes, set along the banks of Barito River. Such kind of house can be regarded as local wisdom to avoid the danger of flooding. Due to flooding in Muara Teweh generally in puddle, not a flood, so however high the flood that occurred will not drown the houses.
Along the river, visitors will also find a charming natural scenery. Watching dense and green forests of Borneo and listen to the song of the typical animals there, is a valuable experience that you cannot find in other places. By using speed boat public service, visitors can enjoy the unlimited natural scenic beauty along Barito River basin. Visitors do not need to worry about the price offered, because there is no official price for the transporter, so that visitors can neutralize. In general, the cost incurred depends on the distance desired by visitors.
Butong Lake
Butong Lake area is located in Butong village, Teweh Selatan district, Barito Utara regency. In this area, there is also rattan Sedatu garden which has protected as hereditary by Butong villagers. In order to preserve the lake, the people always take care of it and there is no order or rules in writing, but voluntarily keeping with overseeing indirectly anyone who enters to Butong lake area.
To keep the villagers made a rule that no development or other activities on the edge of the lake onto land along three kilometers along the lake.
Butong Lake area has biodiversity of flora and fauna. Certain types of orchids can be found in this area, also rare trees are still well preserved. Not only that, in this area there are also assorted squirrels, monkeys from small to the largest, including in this case the animals are reserved, the Orang Utan. You can also found ape nose, Bakantan and black monkey.
One reference for those who want to go to this location, is, you should first contact the Youth Group Awareness or local village chief or through the Foundation of Barito Green, for you to know exactly the condition of the lake. In rainy season, long trips using motorized boats less than half an hour, during the trip you will be enchanted by the natural beauty that you pass through.
If you want an overnight stay here, you can having negotiable with your guides and the fishermen, lanting owner in the lake. To spend the night do not forget to bring enough Sango, anti mosquito and blankets. You need to know, in the area of the lake there is no shop, it should be provided alone.
The Wreck Of Onrust Ship
As described earlier, when you travel to Barito Utara, you can also see the beautiful panorama of Jantur Doyan waterfall, Nature Reserve or Pararawen Protected Forest, unique panoramic of Butong Lake, Inih lake and waterfall, and Trinsing Irrigation Dam. However, the area is also famous as the historical sights, because there is the wreck of Onrust ship belong to the Dutch which drowned by Indonesian war fighter when the Dutch enter this area, as well as variety of sacred tombs fighters, who also received a lot of attention from the visitors.
The remains of those Onrust wreck contained in Lanjas village and as the area of interesting historical sights while memorized the heroic warrior of Barito at that time. The wreck of the warship was drowned by Tumenggung Soerapatti and his men, in the days before independence. This historical site become important construction in the heroic history of Barito Utara people in against invaders. While, there is others historical object here, such as the Tomb of Sultan Muhammad Seman (Prince Antasari son), and many more.
